LUCANUS PLACIDUS IS AN UNCOMMON SPECIES OF STAG BEETLE FOUND IN SANDY SUBSTRATES SURROUNDING THE GREAT LAKES REGION IN CANADA. IN NATURE, LARVAE FEED ON DEAD TREE ROOTS AND ARE KNOW TO HAVE A 4 YEAR LIFE CYCLE. OUR CAPTIVE BRED LUCANUS PLACIDUS HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR MAXIMUM SIZE AND MANDIBLE LENGTH, WITH AN ACCELERATED DEVELOPMENT REQUIRING 8 MONTH TO REACH THEIR ADULT FORM. AVERAGE LIFESPAN IS AROUND 6 MONTHS IN CAPTIBITY, WHILE CERTAIN FEMALES HAVES BEEN KNOWN TO EXCEED 485 + DAYS IN CAPTIVITY. ADULTS CAN BE FED BEETLE JELLIES OR BANANA.
