Larvae tunnel within substrate medium - completing 3 larval instars - before building thier pupal chambers. 90 % of the time, in order to conserve energy, larvae will pupate against the bottom corner of their container. This ultimately provides the unique observational window into the beetle's metamorphosis - a rare process naturally obscured taking place deep under ground, within a log, stump or tree cavity.

Once transformed, the adult should be allowed to harden and rest before being transferred to a permanent vivarium in which feeding + activity will commence. Larve kits are generally available year round at various larval instar stages for several species we work with ( Cotalpa, Dorcus, Pelidnota, Lucanus, Xyloryctes +++ )
